Gerard Chavarria — Systems · Automation · Applied AI

I don’t just fix systems. I find ways to make them better.

Systems technician in a hospital, co-founder of an events company and builder of automations. Since 2021, from assembling servers to running IT infrastructure where uptime isn’t optional.

About

The premise

I like to understand how things work, find the exact point where they break, and build a better way of doing them.

I started out building and configuring servers on a production line. That’s where I learned that failures are rarely random: they have a cause, and whoever finds it stops repeating it.

Today I work on the IT infrastructure of a hospital, where a workstation that won’t boot is a patient kept waiting. That setting taught me to stay calm, prioritise, and explain technology to people who simply need it to work.

In parallel, I co-founded FastLapCrew: budgets, suppliers, logistics and people. I’m as comfortable in an operations meeting as I am in front of a server.

Four areas, one way of working

  1. 01

    Systems

Windows infrastructure, servers, networks and IT operations in environments where continuity is non-negotiable.

  2. 02

    Automation

Spotting repetitive work and turning it into processes that run on their own.

  3. 03

    AI

Artificial intelligence applied to concrete problems: less friction, more time for what matters.

  4. 04

    Problem solving

Analyse, find the real cause, and take the fix all the way to production.

Chapter 04

Leadership

Ingram Micro

Where it all started: from configuring systems to designing how they get configured.

Four years on the configuration line. First as a technician, then leading the department. This is where I built my first custom application to make the process work better.

  1. Configuration Tech. Line Leader

    • Managed and supervised the configuration department
    • Built and maintained a custom application to optimise processes
    • Time and resource analysis; quality and operational efficiency
    • Technical and operational team leadership
    • Fujitsu and HPE servers, security and networking
    • Coordination with other departments
  2. Configuration Technician

    • Operating system installation and configuration
    • Fujitsu and HPE server assembly and configuration
    • Hardware, software, networking and security
    • Troubleshooting and technical support
    • User support and decision-making in fast-moving environments

Scene 04AI + Automation

AI & Automation

Technology shouldn’t stop at solving problems. It should get rid of the ones that keep coming back.

I come from support and operations. I know where time gets lost because I’ve lived it: the task someone repeats every morning, the data copied by hand, the ticket that always returns. That is the raw material of good automation.

Origin The mindset goes back a while: at Ingram Micro I built and maintained a custom application to optimise the configuration department’s processes.

  1. INRepetitive task
  2. 01AI
  3. 02Automation
  4. OUTTime back
From manual task to automated process

What I build

  1. 01

    Process automation

I find repetitive tasks and turn them into workflows that run without anyone touching them.

  2. 02

    System integration

I connect tools so information flows between them instead of being copied and pasted.

  3. 03

    AI assistants and agents

I apply AI to specific day-to-day tasks so people can spend their time on work that needs judgement.

  4. 04

    Workflow optimisation

I measure where a process gets stuck and redesign it before automating it.

Scene 05How I think

How I think

A method, not a list of adjectives.

  1. 01

    Understand

Before touching anything, I listen. What’s happening, who it affects, and what “working” actually means.

  2. 02

    Analyse

I separate the symptom from the cause. A reboot puts out the fire; analysis keeps it from coming back.

  3. 03

    Build

I design the fix and ship it to production. An idea that never gets deployed solves nothing.

  4. 04

    Automate

If a problem repeats, the job isn’t solving it again. It’s making sure it never needs a person again.

  5. 05

    Improve

I measure the outcome, listen to the people using it, and adjust. No system is ever finished.

What’s next?

Memoji of Gerard Chavarria waving

Every chapter has pushed me toward the same idea: spend less time putting out fires and more time building systems that don’t start them. The next one brings it all together: systems, AI and automation working as one.
